MINISTERING: DR. JOHN LUKOMONA (part 1)

Theme: Key Fundamental Scriptures of the Christian Faith

  • Sub-theme: Holiness
    Text: 1 Peter 1:15-16;  Leviticus 20:26

What is Holiness?
As a noun: it is the quality or state of being Holy
Holy means sanctified or separated
Holiness is the attitude and state of mind in which certain activities and thoughts are rejected in order to come closer to God.
Biblical meaning of Holiness: it is being separated or set apart
-The day you became born again, you became Holy.
-The first degree of Holiness is the separation
-God is Holy in that he himself is set apart from any activity that is not godly
1 John 1:5
Why should we be Holy as Christians?
-Because the one who called us (God) is Holy
-God’s people must be Holy by being set apart from sim
-Holiness is separateness that entails moral purity by God’s standards
Areas of Separation
1. Knowledge
2. Thought
3. Activities
-When we have the knowledge of God and what he expects of us we begin to grow in Holiness
-Knowledge is important because it teaches you of what God expects of you as a Christian and also who God is
Knowledge is the reason why thoughts are influenced
-The process of knowing the Holy God is aimed at us to be more separated to God
-Just by being born again we are Holy as God has separated us from the world therefore we must grow in Holiness through learning
-Our minds are affected by what we know because we think about what we have learnt
-Our thoughts are informed by what we know through senses, experience and learning.
-To grow in Holiness, shape your thoughts
-It is important that we fill our thoughts with the knowledge of God and the things that please God
-The thoughts we develop based on the knowledge of God will lead us to correct activities or actions
Titus 2:11
-Many good things we do arise from good thoughts
-The actions that please God are evidence of the Holiness that we have
-It is important we fill our thoughts with the knowledge of God and the things that please God. When we do so, we automatically reject wrong thought patterns.
